How To Care For Your Clothing // The Eco-Friendly Way!

Once you start your ethical and sustainable fashion journey, you might be wondering: "How can I care for my clothing to lessen my impact and make my clothing last longer?"

Expanding the lifespan of your clothing is better for the planet and better for your wallet!

We sat down with Corinna, co-founder of the coolest eco-friendly Brooklyn laundromat Celsious to discuss sustainable clothing care.

Here are her top tips:

  1. Always pre-treat stains. If all fails, it's always good to start with water and hand soap.

  2. Wash at a lower temperature! It saves energy and prolongs the lifespan of your garment. Heat will stress the fiber! [*our added side note: heat will also shrink fibers like organic cotton!]

  3. Lower temperature for drying! Line dry is always best.

  4. Store your clothing well. Knit garments and delicates should be folded or on padded garment hangers instead of wood or metal hangers.

  5. Wash your clothes as infrequently as you can. Less is definitely more! The fewer times you subject your garment to the stresses of washing, spinning, tumbling, and drying, the longer it will last!

We also recommend using natural laundry soap and swapping disposable dryer sheets for reusable dryer balls.

We hope these tips are helpful and that you'll use some [or all] of them in your laundry and clothing care routine!
