If you don't know who Pigeon is, check out our 'Meet Our Team' page HERE

He's an integral member of the Miakoda family, and he's also the guy who packs your orders [how do you think we fly packages all over the world?!]

Keep reading to learn how he came to be part of our family and our team!

12 years ago as Julia, co-owner and designer of Miakoda, was learning to drive, she encountered Pigeon running into a busy road on Long Island, NY. She (along with her mother) immediately got out of her car to see what this crazy bird was doing. Why was he running into the street and chasing humans down the block?! After further inspection they realized that the pigeon was a baby (he was tiny with baby feathers).

Discouraged after calling multiple animal rescue centers and sanctuaries, the Ahrens team found out that pigeons are considered "domesticated" animals— meaning nobody would take him as a "wild life rescue." They called the local vet who thankfully was willing to help. He explained that the bird was malnourished and underweight... he would have to be nursed back to health.

After weeks of feeding him thru a tube and trying to teach him to fly, Pigeon easily stole the hearts of the family and all the friends who met him. He became good friends with one of the household cats, and they knew he would never be able to live outdoors again (as he was way too accustomed to playing with cats and dogs— animals that would eat him in the wild).

His usual personality is territorial and feisty-- these attributes are PERFECT for him to be the Miakoda Mascot and to overlook our shipping department. He makes sure everything flies to your front door in tip top shape. Need an exchange? He will process them quickly for you!
