What Is Ethical and Sustainable Fashion—And Why Both Matter

In today’s fast-paced fashion world, two terms are becoming increasingly essential: ethical and sustainable. But what do they really mean?

Sustainable fashion focuses on minimizing harm to the planet—using eco-friendly materials, reducing waste, creating in small batches, and lowering carbon footprints throughout the production process. It asks: How can we create clothing that’s kind to the environment?

Ethical fashion, on the other hand, centers around people. It ensures that the workers who make our clothing are treated fairly, paid living wages, and provided safe working conditions. It asks: Who made our clothes—and were they treated fairly?

Doing just one of these things is a meaningful start—but to truly protect our planet and its future, we need to do both. Because caring for the Earth also means caring for the people (and animals) who live on it.

At Miakoda, we’re committed to being both ethical and sustainable—and we take it one step further by being completely vegan. That means our clothing is not only made from plant-based, low-impact materials in small batches right here in NYC, but we also never use animal products. Because we believe the planet isn’t just about the environment—it’s about the humans, the animals, and the future we're building together.

Fashion shouldn’t cost the Earth—or anyone’s wellbeing. We're here to prove that comfort, style, and conscious living can all coexist.
