Sustainability is at the heart of every decision we make. From the fabrics we choose to where and how our clothing is made, we think about the impact of each choice along the way.

Creating clothing you can feel good about wearing and supporting, pieces that are better for you, the people who make them, the animals, and the planet, is what matters most to us.

Where is our clothing made?

Miakoda clothing is proudly made in New York City, just a short drive from our Long Island studio. Our pieces are cut and sewn at an ethical NYC factory where workers are paid a fair, living wage and treated with the respect they deserve.

Producing locally allows us to stay close to the process, work directly with the people making our clothing, and support the skilled craftspeople who keep NYC’s garment industry alive. Because how your clothing is made matters just as much as what it’s made from.

Our Materials

We choose sustainable, plant-based materials that feel good on your body and are made with the planet in mind. You may notice small amounts of spandex in some of our pieces. We use it intentionally: a little stretch helps our clothing maintain its shape, comfort, and fit over time—so you can wear and love it for longer.

  • USA-Grown Organic Cotton — USDA-certified organic cotton grown right here in the USA, then knit into fabric in the USA. Keeping more of the process close to home is something we're especially proud of and love about this beautiful fabric.
  • Organic Cotton — Our organic cotton fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified. Unlike conventional cotton, organic cotton is grown without toxic and persistent synthetic pesticides and fertilizers or genetically modified seeds, supporting healthier soils and ecosystems. It's better for you and the people harvesting the crop and making the fabric! 
  • Hemp — One of our favorite plant-based fibers. Hemp is durable, long-lasting, and naturally strong, making it especially well suited for clothing designed to be worn again and again.
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell — Our TENCEL™ Lyocell is OEKO-TEX® certified and made from wood based cellulose. And the TENCEL™ name matters: TENCEL™ isn't just another name for lyocell, it's Lenzing's branded fiber, made with responsibly sourced wood using a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses more than 99.8% of the solvent. TENCEL™ fibers also offer traceability and are known for their softness, breathability, moisture management, and durability.

Less Waste + More Wear

We believe fabric waste is a design flaw. The amount of perfectly good, brand-new fabric that ends up in landfills each year is staggering, so we design with our scraps in mind—upcycling fabric scraps from production into wearable pieces and zero-waste accessories whenever possible.

We also produce in small, intentional batches to combat overconsumption and avoid making clothing that may never find a loving home. For us, being thoughtful about what happens to every piece of fabric is just as important as what we create from it.

We take our time choosing our fabrics and manufacturing partners to create quality garments that are made to last. We want your Miakoda pieces to live in your closet for years and years—not just a season. Clothing is meant to be lived in, loved, worn on repeat, and earn a permanent spot in your rotation. Making fewer, better pieces that you actually want to keep wearing is at the heart of how we approach sustainability.
